While the Tight Ends at Michigan State are asked mostly to help in the run game, this year could require more production out of them in the pass game. The Spartans will return Matt Dotson and Noah Davis, who missed all of last season with an injury. Redshirt Freshman Trenton Gillison also is also slated in to get some playing time this year.
Matt Dotson played in all 13 games last season and while he didn’t make a huge impact in the passing game he more than held his own in the rushing game. Dotson did have a receiving touchdown on 14 receptions and now as the primary starter, he should see those numbers increase.
Noah Davis will return this season after missing all of last year with an undisclosed injury. The former 4 star recruit will look to make his first real impact for the Spartans and provide a second option behind Dotson.
Trenton Gillison did see a little bit of playing time but not enough to burn his redshirt status. He was a highly regarded recruit out of Ohio and was ranked as a top 10 TE in the class. This season he will mostly provide depth and continue to learn the ins and outs of college football.
