University Of Minnesota Football Preview- 5 Things To Know

Offensive Key To Success

Getting the ball to the Playmakers. Minnesota has two dynamic Running Backs in Mo Ibrahim and Bryce Williams. They combined for over 1,600 yards last season. The receiving corps are as strong as Minnesota has ever had with Tyler Johnson, who will be in the NFL next year. Tight End Rashod Bateman is the next in the pecking order. The problem is getting the ball to these guys. It’s always said that if you have 2 Quarterbacks than you really have zero. Tanner Morgan and Zack Annexstad are battling for the starting position. The main job for whoever wins the job is protect the ball and play smart.

Defensive Key To Success

For the defense to be good they are going to have to create more plays in the backfield. The secondary is solid with Safety Antoine Winfield and the linebackers are the strength of the team. Linebacker Carter Coughlin is the undisputed leader of the defense. If Minnesota can find a way to pressure the Quarterback and get teams into obvious passing downs anything can happen in a wide open west division.

Biggest Game Of The Season

Biggest game this season is probably an October 12th home game against Nebraska. It will be a good game to figure out where they sit in the Big Ten West. Nebraska is favored by some to win the West and this game will decide the pecking order in the division.

Breakout Player

The breakout player for this team will be whoever wins the Quarterback job. Whether it’s Tanner Morgan or Zack Annexstad the weapons are there and the system sets up to be Quarterback friendly.

Prediction Time

For the prediction I have Minnesota going 5-7 and that is based on we don’t know the production of the Quarterback. In a west division that 6 of the 7 teams could make a case to win, somebody has to lose some games and this year I think Minnesota is that team.
