University Of Northwestern Football Preview- 5 Things To Know

Offensive Key To Success

The key to this offense will be finding an identity. Last year Northwestern ranked 12th in the Big Ten in offense and still managed to win the division. With transfer Hunter Johnson coming over, the Wildcats will have a more talented QB than last year, but there is no strong suit for this team. The offense was wildly inefficient but did enough to win games. It will have to be better this season

Defensive Key To Success

Defense is the heartbeat of this team. It will return nine starters and the front seven is as good as it comes. For this defense to be better the young secondary will need to continue growing and this defense will be one of the stingiest in the country. With Coach Fitzgerald’s scheme Northwestern’s defense will keep them in every game while the offense tries keeps up.

Biggest Game Of The Season

Biggest Game should be August 31 at Stanford. We know Northwestern can beat anybody in the Big Ten, but the game against Stanford could be the difference between a good and a great season.

Breakout Player

Breakout player is going to be Hunter Johnson. The former 5 star recruit could be the best Quarterback to come through Northwestern. Sorry Trevor Simien fans. While he’s not a true dual threat he moves around plenty good enough to be effective. Johnson could be the type of player to take the Northwestern program to the next level.

Prediction Time

I have NW finishing a solid 8-4, one game away from another trip to the Big Ten title game. It’s not that Northwestern came down, the rest of the West has stepped up and become very competitive.
