University Of Wisconsin Football Preview- 5 Things To Know

Offensive Key To Success

The offense will be good this year as long as the Quarterbacks can keep the defense honest. We know Johnathon Taylor is going to do his thing once again and will be the leader of the team. The Quarterback competition is interesting. Alex Hornibrook transferred out and Junior Jake Coan is still there. But true Freshman Graham Mertz appears to be the real deal. I don’t know if Mertz starts the first game but by the end of the season he will be the unquestioned starter.

Defensive Key To Success

The defense wasn’t as good last year as we have been used to and for this season to be successful the Linebackers are going to have to be better. The system sets up for the Linebackers to make plays and they weren’t there last year. If that group steps up their production the back end of the defense is as good as ever and the line is what we have come to expect from Wisconsin.

Biggest Game Of The Season

While there are a ton of big games this year for the Badgers, I’m going to go with the September 21st game against Michigan in Madison. It will be revenge game against a top 10 Michigan Team who will be favored. Michigan typically struggles in Big games and this could be a signature win for the Badgers.

Breakout Player

Breakout player is going to be QB Graham Mertz without a doubt. One of the highest rated recruits that Wisconsin has ever landed and a position of weakness on the team. Mertz tore up the Under Armour game last year and should provide balance to an offense that leans heavily on the run.

Prediction time

I’m going to go with a solid 8 wins for the Badgers this season. The crossover games in conference are tough with Michigan and at Ohio State and Michigan State. The key to the West is having the weak crossover schedule and the Badgers don’t have that luxury this season.
