Big Ten Game Preview: Maryland Terrapins at Rutgers Scarlet Knights

Maryland is coming off a very humbling performance against the Penn State Nittany Lions, in which they fell 59-0. After a promising 2-0 start the Terrapins have fallen flat and are in need of a good performance to save this season. The biggest issue that Maryland has had in their last two games is production from the Quarterback position. Josh Jackson has struggled in the last two losses and may have lost his starting job but we wont know that until kickoff. The rushing game has been the strength so far this season with Anthony McFarland Jr leading the way. I would imagine that the Terrapins will lean heavily on McFarland to get the offense rolling in the right direction. The defense should have an easier time this week facing the Rutgers offense, that struggles to put up points. As long as Maryland doesn’t give this game to Rutgers with turnovers and short fields it should be a successful day for the Terrapins.

The Scarlet Knights are 1-3 and made a change at the head coach position after being blown out by a Michigan team that has had trouble on offense this season. It will be interesting to see if the team is invested this week after the change or are they going to be mailing it in. Rutgers Quarterback Artur Sitkowski has looked better this season and gives the Scarlet Knights some optimism. Raheem Blackshear is having a very productive season and if he keeps up his performance could garner some all-conference consideration. Rutgers has had problems running the ball this season even with Isaih Pacheco returning. The Scarlet Knights have looked good this season when they have a balanced attack and with Maryland reeling a little bit, this may be one of Rutgers’ best chances to get a conference victory for the first time in a long time.
