Michigan gets another chance to get the offense clicking on all cylinders before the schedule toughens up again in this match-up against Illinois. The defense returned to form last week and against an Illinois team that doesn’t have the top tier talent, Michigan should look dominant once again. Shea Patterson needs to get the ball to the play-makers on the outside which is the strength of this team. The offense has looked its best when Patterson is throwing up 50-50 balls to the talented Wide Receivers. I know that its not the best game plan but it has worked for the Wolverines this year. The defense will have to focus on stopping the running game of the Illini as that is their strong suit. The defense has struggled against the run prior to last weeks game but seemed to fix it against Iowa. If you’re looking for a player to have a good game for the Wolverines, I’m looking at Tarik Black to have his first big game this season.
Illinois is in the middle of the toughest stretch of their schedule after facing undefeated Minnesota, now Michigan, and next week against Wisconsin. The key for Illinois to pull the upset will be Running Back Reggie Corbin having a giant game. We have seen a couple of teams have success against the Michigan rush defense and if the weakness still exists the Illini will have to exploit it. Quarterback Brandon Peters is banged up so its unclear if him or Matt Robinson will start. No matter who the starter is they will have to protect the ball in order for this game to stay close. The defense for Illinois has been very good at causing turnovers this year and with a turnover prone Michigan, Illinois can hold out a little bit of hope of pulling an upset. In order for Illinois to win everything would have to go right for them, while everything goes wrong with Michigan
